Dr. Garrett Montgomery was raised in Corpus Christi, Texas. He was introduced to veterinary medicine at a young age through his grandfather, who was a veterinarian in Corpus Christi for 43 years. Dr. Montgomery started working at Windsor Park Animal Hospital in Corpus Christi during high school, which solidified his passion for working with animals and their humans, and he set his goal on attending veterinary school. He moved to College Station to pursue a degree in Animal Science at Texas A&M University. He was a member of the Corps of Cadets while at Texas A&M and graduated Summa Cum Laude in 2006. Dr. Montgomery obtained his DVM at Texas A&M, graduating Magna Cum Laude in 2010.
Dr. Montgomery began his career in a mixed-animal practice in Edna, Texas, from 2010-2012. He moved to Luling, Texas, in 2012 where he continued his passion for working in a mixed-animal practice in the Luling, Lockhart, Seguin and New Braunfels area. In 2020, he opened his own practice in Seguin, Texas.
Dr. Montgomery enjoys a variety of large and small animal medicine and surgery. He strives to always have open and honest conversations about treatment options and expectations, financial commitments, and economic decisions for large animal producers.
Dr. Montgomery lives outside of Lockhart, Texas, with his wife and three young daughters. Away from work, he enjoys spending time outdoors and working with his own horses and cows.
Dr. Caroline Alsop grew up in a farming and ranching family in the rural community of Riviera, TX. Her grandfather played a large part in her life and introduced her to veterinary medicine and ranching. He practiced mixed-animal veterinary medicine for 55 years in South Texas and would often include his grandchildren for farm calls. Dr. Alsop began working in a veterinary clinic while in high school at Hubert Veterinary Hospital and completed a work-study program there throughout her senior year.
Dr. Alsop pursued her higher education at Texas A&M University, where she had the opportunity to complete an internship at Hagyard Equine Medical Institute for a breeding season in Kentucky and was a student worker at A&M’s Large Animal Teaching Hospital. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science with a certificate in Equine Science from Texas A&M University. After completing her undergraduate studies, she obtained her DVM in 2022 also from Texas A&M University and has been at Southern Winds Veterinary Services ever since.
Dr. Alsop has a passion for large, small and exotic animal medicine. She strives to establish a lasting connection with her patients and their owners as well as providing the best, affordable care possible.
Dr. Alsop lives in San Antonio with her husband, their two children and six dogs. She enjoys the outdoors, running, and spending time with her family.
Dr. Michaela Lehmann was raised in New Braunfels, Texas. She attended Texas A&M University for both undergraduate studies in Animal Science and for veterinary school. She graduated from Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine in 2024. Dr. Lehmann joined Southern Winds Veterinary Services after graduation in 2024.
Dr. Lehmann lives in New Braunfels with her husband, Kaden, son, Wade (born in 2025), one large Labrador Retriever, and three cats. Outside of work, she enjoys playing soccer, gardening, cooking, water sports on the lake, and being a mom.
Dr. Lehmann has a passion for small and large animal medicine and surgery. Her ultimate goal is to serve her community and provide exceptional care to her patients, while also forming lasting relationships with clients.
Dr. Alec Janke grew up in a military family who settled in Rockwall, TX for the majority of her childhood. She got her first Labrador Retriever in second grade after a year of reading every dog book she could get her hands on and asking her parents daily to get her own dog. After starting college at Texas A&M University, Dr. Janke became heavily involved in the Animal Science Department and decided to pursue veterinary medicine. Throughout undergrad, Dr. Janke worked at a hunter jumper horse barn, the Texas A&M Poultry Science Center and a local veterinary hospital. In addition to work, Dr. Janke trained a seizure alert dog during college where she found a better understanding of training and a love for animal behavior. After completing her Bachelor of Science in Animal Science with a Business Minor, Dr. Janke decided to pursue a Master’s Degree in Biomedical Science during which she continued to work at a local veterinary hospital and picked up running half marathons as a hobby.
Dr. Janke completed her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree at Texas A&M University in 2025, focusing on both small and large animal clinical rotations. She was an active member in the American Association of Equine Practitioners, the American Association of Bovine Practitioners, the student chapter of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons and Christian Veterinary Fellowship. She spent her summers on externships in rural areas of Texas predominantly in mixed animal or equine veterinary practices.
Dr. Janke joined Southern Winds Veterinary Services in 2025. She enjoys building relationships with owners and producers to work as a team and provide the best quality care for her patients. She has a passion for small animal, equine, production animal and pocket pet exotic medicine.
Dr. Janke lives in Schertz, TX with her husband, daughter (born in 2025) and dog, Granger. In her free time, she enjoys gathering with family and friends, exploring Texas towns, running marathons and trying new Southern Living recipes.
Dr. Charlotte Dawson grew up near the USAF bases and Cambridge University in England, where her passion for veterinary medicine began early through volunteer work at local veterinary clinics. She pursued her dream at the Royal Veterinary College (RVC) in London, earning a degree in Bio-Veterinary Science in 2009 before returning to complete her veterinary degree. In 2017, she was inducted into the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons.
During her training, Dr. Dawson gained hands-on experience at the London Zoo and on working farms across Europe, sparking a deep interest in large animal medicine. She began her career as a mixed animal relief veterinarian throughout England before relocating to Texas in 2019 following her husband Chris’s retirement from the U.S. Air Force.
Since 2019, Dr. Dawson has practiced mixed animal medicine in Central Texas, refining her skills in both medicine and surgery. She developed a strong focus on large animal medicine, working closely with ranchers to support herd health, preventative care, and production medicine. She is also USDA accredited to assist with animal health surveillance and interstate movement requirements and has earned certification in Veterinary Acupuncture, expanding her approach to integrative patient care.
In 2025, Dr. Dawson joined Southern Winds Veterinary Services, where she is excited to continue providing compassionate, high-quality care to both large and small animal patients while building lasting relationships with clients throughout the community. One of her greatest passions is the opportunity to care for multiple species and practice across a variety of disciplines every day. She looks forward to helping you care for your pets, livestock, and the animals that are family.
Outside of work, Dr. Dawson enjoys weightlifting, hiking, board games, and exploring new cuisines. She and her husband, Chris, live in Seguin with their infant daughter, Evangeline, and consider themselves ‘renesters’ since their young adult kids have moved out. Of course there is also a lively crew of pets: Reeka, a rescue pointer/hound; Sami, a Chihuahua; and three sphynx cats—Baron, Tzarina, and Queenie.
Dr. Michaela Shores grew up near Aledo, Texas. Her love for animals began at an early age with caring for the dogs and cats in her family and spending time on her grandparents’ cattle ranch near Llano. Dr. Shores attended Texas A&M University, where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Sciences. During her undergraduate studies, she was actively involved with the Winnie Carter Wildlife Center and a local horse barn, and the TAMU Zoological Society, and tutored introductory biology courses. She also worked in veterinary clinics in Aledo and Cleburne, where her passion for veterinary medicine continued to grow.
Dr. Shores received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Texas A&M University, graduating Summa Cum Laude and earning induction into the Phi Zeta Veterinary Honor Society. Drawn to the variety of mixed animal medicine, she actively pursued a wide range of interests through professional student associations focused on companion animal, equine, livestock, and exotic animal medicine and surgery, while also expanding her experience through externships at mixed animal practices across Texas. In addition, she served in leadership roles within the Small Ruminant Practitioners and Swine Vets organizations and tutored first-year veterinary students in small and large animal anatomy and physiology courses.
Dr. Shores enjoys both small and large animal medicine and surgery. One of her favorite parts of veterinary medicine is getting to know people and partnering with them to keep their animals healthy throughout every stage of life.
Dr. Shores lives in Seguin with her husband and their two cats. She enjoys spending time with her husband, friends, and family, staying active, relaxing with a good book or TV series, and exploring new places and restaurants in Texas.
